Worship Service

Lord's Day Schedule:

We wrap up Sunday School between 10:30 & 10:45. Fresh coffee and good fellowship is available until we’re ready to start the Worship Service at 11:00. We encourage you to prepare yourself for worship of our Triune God.

Form of Worship:

We believe that worship of God is the purpose of our existence, both individually and corporately. Therefore, our worship service is the main event in our schedule on the Lord’s Day, and indeed, in our whole week. God alone determines how He is to be worshipped. This conviction is often called the Regulative Principle of Worship.

Our worship is centered on God, His Word, and the glory of His Son. The format is very simple, and we seek to give all reverence and honor to our Triune God. To that end, we are diligent to pattern our worship on the specific commands given in Scripture: we respond together to catechism questions (2 Timothy 1:13), we read the Word (1 Timothy 4:13), we pray (Acts 2:42), we sing praise to our God (Ephesians 5:19), we hear the Word preached (2 Timothy 4:2), and we partake together of the Lord’s Table (communion) each week (1 Corinthians 11:26).

Our Order of Worship is quite simple:

Sermon:

You can expect the preaching to last around 50-55 minutes, with the sermon focusing on the exposition of a passage from the Bible, allowing the text itself to speak to us, along with application for God’s people. We believe this is the primary means by which God calls sinners to Himself and sanctifies His people. Pastor David ordinarily preaches consecutively through a particular book of the Bible, with an occasional topical series. Please check out our current sermon series.

Music:

We seek for our music to be God-honoring both in content and style. We sing old and new hymns and songs, along with Psalms. Many of our old hymns are a wonderful connection to the faith of the saints that have gone before us in previous generations, while the new songs are a reminder of the ongoing work of Christ in His church. Our music is carefully selected so that our minds might be instructed and encouraged with the content of the lyrics. Our songs are often accompanied by piano, guitar, bass, flute, cajón and other instruments as the Lord supplies those gifts.

Lord's Supper:

Finally, we observe the Lord’s Supper each week following the sermon. We believe that the Risen Christ ministers to us spiritually through this ordinance and that we have the privilege of proclaiming corporately His death, burial, resurrection, and future return. The Lord’s Table is open to all who have been born again, who have evidenced their faith by being baptized according to the Scriptures, and who are members in good standing of another true church.

Giving:

While we do not “pass the plate” at GfBC Conroe, we do recognize that God’s people will express their praise and worship of God through generous giving. We have an offering box on the back table in the auditorium so that you may give freely, not under compulsion, as God has prospered you, remembering the promise of the Bible that “God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7).
